[:en]Our education stuck in a time when education serve the creation of a database in the brain. But not only news about the success of scientists are reserved for foreign names. Example for the domestic success is certainly company Genos of Prof. Gordan Lauc. His company is the first private DNA lab in the region and one of the leading scientific institutions in Republic of Croatia in the field of DNA in analysis of glycans. Dr. Lauc is a molecular biologist and professor of Pharmaceutical and Biochemical Faculty in Zagreb. Moreover, he is a honorary professor at King’s College in London and the University of Edinburgh where he works with our other prestigious scientist Igor Rudan. With all that Lauc is judicial expert for the analysis of DNK and one of the founders of the method of identification of victims from mass graves. Dr. Lauc believes that our country does not have enough patents and innovation as, for example, Finland, Israel and the United States, and that the biggest problem lies in education, that innovations does not encouraged. In Croatia there are a lot of smart young people but our education system is killing their creativity. Generally speaking, the whole system prevents innovations so it is not surprising that we are at the very bottom of Europe. On the other hand, in Republic of Croatia there is a small number of successful small companies despite access to funds from the EU funds. Ministry of Science does not obstruct scientific centers but do not announce concrete contests. Deadlines are deferred, the rules are changed … Croatia, according to Dr. Lauc, is not able to recognize those who orders more and better than others and for it should be rewarded. Our academic community still living under socialism, where everyone is equal.
In the company Genos last few years intensively working on biomarkers and on the development of methods for the analysis of glycans and their application in the study of disease. Recently they founded company GlycanAge in London through which they intend to sell their products on the western market. They even won the Chinese market in sales of tests. With all that trying to launch a new global product that would allow people to notice at the time that their health is impaired.
[:hr]Naše je obrazovanje zapelo u vremenima kad je školovanje služilo stvaranju baze podataka u mozgu. No, nisu samo vijesti o uspjehu znanstvenika rezervirane za strana imena. Primjer za domaći uspjeh je svakako tvrtka Genos prof.dr.sc. Gordana Lauca. Njegova tvrtka prvi je privatni DNK laboratorij u regiji i jedna od vodećih znanstvenih institucija u RH u području DNK u analizi glikana. Dr. Lauc je molekularni biolog i profesor Farmaceutsko-biokemijskog fakulteta u Zagrebu. Uz to, počasni je profesor na Kings Collegeu u Londonu i sveučilištu u Edinburghu gdje surađuje s našim drugim vrhunskim znanstvenikom Igorom Rudanom. Uz sve to, Lauc je i sudski vještak za analizu DNK i jedan od utemeljitelja metoda identifikacije žrtava iz masovnih grobnica. Dr. Lauc smatra da je naša zemlja nema dovoljno patenata i inovacija kao, primjerice, Finska, Izrael i SAD, a da najveći problem leži u školstvu koji te inovacije ne potiče. U Hrvatskoj postoji puno pametnih mladih ljudi no naš sustav školovanja ubija njihovu kreativnost. Generalno gledajući, čitav sustav sprečava inovacije pa stoga ni ne iznenađuje činjenica da smo na samom začelju Europe. S druge strane, u RH je jako malo uspješnih malih tvrtki unatoč pristupu sredstvima iz EU fondova. Ministarstvo znanosti ne opstruira znanstvene centre no ni ne raspisuje konkretne natječaje. Rokovi se odgađaju, mijenjaju se pravila… Hrvatska, prema riječima dr. Lauca, nije u stanju prepoznati one koji rede više i bolje od drugih te ih za to nagraditi. Naša akademska zajednica još živi u socijalizmu u kojemu su svi jednaki.
U tvrtki Genos posljednjih godina intenzivno se radi na biomarkerima odnosno na razvoju metoda za analizu glikana i njihove primjene u istraživanju bolesti. Nedavno su osnovali tvrtku GlycanAge u Londonu preko koje namjeravaju prodavati svoje proizvode na zapadnom tržištu. Čak su i osvojili Kinesko tržište u prodaji testova. Uz sve to, pokušavaju pokrenuti novi globalni proizvod koji bi ljudima omogućio da na vrijeme uoče da im je zdravlje narušeno.
[:de]Unsere Ausbildung steckt in einer Zeit, wenn Ausbildung die Schaffung einer Datenbank im Gehirn dienen. Aber nicht nur Neuigkeiten über den Erfolg der Wissenschaftler sind für fremde Namen reserviert. Beispiel für den heimischen Erfolg ist sicher die Firma Genos von Prof. Gordan Lauc. Sein Unternehmen ist das erste private DNA-Labor in der Region und einer der führenden wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen in der Republik Kroatien auf dem Gebiet der DNA bei der Analyse von Glykanen. Dr. Lauc ist ein Molekularbiologe und Professor für Pharmazeutische und Biochemische Fakultät in Zagreb. Zusätzlich, er ist Honorarprofessor am King’s College in London und an der Universität Edinburgh, wo er mit unserem anderen renommierten Wissenschaftler Igor Rudan arbeitet. Mit allem, Lauc ist Gerichtsfachmann für die Analyse der DNK und einer der Gründer der Methode der Identifizierung von Opfern aus Massengräbern. Dr. Lauc glaubt, dass unser Land nicht genug Patente und Innovationen hat, wie zum Beispiel Finnland, Israel und die Vereinigten Staaten, und dass das größte Problem in der Bildung liegt, dass Innovationen nicht gefördert werden. In Kroatien gibt es viele intelligente junge Leute, aber unser Bildungssystem tötet ihre Kreativität. Im Allgemeinen das ganze System verhindert Innovationen so ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass wir ganz am Ende von Europa sind. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es in der Republik Kroatien trotz des Zugangs zu Mitteln aus den EU-Fonds eine kleine Anzahl erfolgreicher kleiner Unternehmen. Das Ministerium für Wissenschaft beeinträchtigt nicht wissenschaftliche Zentren, sondern kündigt keine konkreten Wettbewerbe an. Die Fristen werden aufgeschoben, die Regeln werden geändert … Kroatien, nach Dr. Lauc, ist nicht in der Lage, diejenigen zu erkennen, die mehr und besser als andere und für sie belohnt werden. Unsere akademische Gemeinschaft lebt noch im Sozialismus, wo jeder gleich ist.
Im Unternehmen Genos letzten Jahre intensiv arbeiten an Biomarkern und auf die Entwicklung von Methoden für die Analyse von Glykane und ihre Anwendung bei der Untersuchung von Krankheiten. Vor kurzem haben sie die Firma GlycanAge in London gegründet, durch die sie ihre Produkte auf dem westlichen Markt verkaufen wollen. Sie haben sogar den chinesischen Markt im Verkauf von Tests gewonnen. Mit all dem, das versucht, ein neues globales Produkt zu starten, das es den Menschen erlauben würde, zu dem Zeitpunkt zu bemerken, dass ihre Gesundheit beeinträchtigt wird.[:]
