The Assembly of the Scientific Council for Technological Development of HAZU took place in the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prof. dr.sc Dragan Kovačević from the Faculty of Food Technology held a lecture on “Innovation as the basis for the competitiveness of Croatian food industry”. The Scientific Council for Technological Development HAZU so far has been the most important source of Academy documents which are connected with education reform and the importance of innovation. Regarding innovation success, Croatia is at the bottom of the list of members EU, and lead Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. Low level of investment in research and development, poor cooperation of science and economy, low level of foreign investment, the professor stated as the main reason. The greatest resistance to the recession showed the food industry. Looking at the annual level, the rate of growth is 4%, increase productivity of 5 to 6%, export growth 19%, while productivity is still at the level of 70% of the EU average.
